Dr. Christian Rowan

Specialist Physician | Addiction Medicine

Dr Christian Rowan has more than two decades of experience in the field of addiction disorders and substance dependency conditions, and he is one of Australia’s leading medical professionals.

Dr Rowan’s clinical interests include prescription drug dependency, opioid substitution therapy, and co-morbidity pertaining to pain conditions and substance disorders.

Dr Rowan is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Chapter of Addiction Medicine and he is a Member of the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and Other Drugs. Dr Rowan is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Wesley Hospital and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine & Dentistry at Griffith University.

Dr Rowan is a former Member of the Queensland Mental Health Commission’s Clinical Advisory Council and he was previously the President of the Australian Medical Association of Queensland and the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, and he holds a Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association.

Dr James Finn has over a decade of experience in the field of addiction disorders and substance dependency conditions. He is also a Staff Specialist with the Melaleuca Clinic at the Prince Charles Hospital. Dr Finn is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Wesley Hospital and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.

Dr Finn completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of Queensland. His clinical interests include patient safety, clinical governance, corporate governance, medical education, rural medicine, and Aboriginal health. His sub interests within addiction medicine include detoxification for therapeutic and non-therapeutic opioid dependence, alcohol dependence, benzodiazepine dependence, cannabis dependence, and amphetamine dependence. He has an interest in opioid maintenance.

Dr Finn was President of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland from 2008 -2009. He was a Vice President of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia in 2009 to 2010. Dr Finn is the Queensland Branch Convenor of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Chapter of Addiction Medicine Committee.

Jane Rowan

Chief Operating Officer

Jane has worked in the field of addiction disorders and substance dependency conditions for over 15 years.She helped to establish Addiction Sciences Qld in 2008 and has worked in every aspect of that business, including as Chief Operations Officer. She also established the Addiction Sciences Qld Family Support Group service after recognising the lack of assistance available to those supporting loved ones with substance dependency.

Jane oversees the smooth operations of Addiction Sciences Qld, working with the team to help ensure every patient receives the best possible care. She also contributes as a Case Manager, ensuring the compliance and care of patients registered on the Queensland Opioid Treatment Program.

A journalist by training, Jane is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of the Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Association.

Jane is a Non Executive Director of Upbeat Arts and a Director of the Somerville House Foundation.

She is passionate about eradicating the stigma surrounding mental health and substance dependency conditions and treatment and is a strong advocate for greater education and conversations about these issues.

Jenni has a background in customer service management and interior design where she acquired skills that allowed her to effectively utilise a hands-on approach to find purposeful solutions for clients in different environments.

Looking to further interact with others on a more interpersonal level, Jenni joined Addiction Sciences Queensland in 2012, where she has worked as both a Medical Receptionist and a Case Manager for patients on the Queensland Opioid Treatment Program. With an ongoing interest in addiction medicine, she enjoys being part of a team supporting others with substance dependency and their recovery.

Jenni completed her Bachelor of Arts (Double Major in Literature and Cultural Studies) degree at the University of Queensland, and Bachelor of Built Environment (Major in Interior Design) degree at Queensland University of Technology.

Sara McGarvey

Sara joined the Addiction Sciences Qld team in April 2022, bringing over 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and community services sector to the role. Sara has also worked for many years with students who learn differently and has overseen the running of volunteer support communities for people in crisis.

With her Bachelor of Science and long-standing interest in psychology, Sara’s professional experience complements the services of Addiction Sciences Qld and ensures our patients receive care and support that is in line with our values of respect, empowerment and non-judgement.

Sara has volunteered for organisations that help support the homeless as well as those with mental health and substance dependency issues.

A growing interest in addiction medicine and substance dependency disorders means Sara enjoys being part of a team supporting patients in their recovery from substance dependency.

Lauren joined The Banyans Medical Centre team in August 2021, with an extensive history in customer service and several years working in medical reception.

Lauren started her career in hairdressing and has worked as a medical receptionist since 2018. She has also worked as a volunteer with the RSPCA for more than eight years and has a background in helping to organise concerts, events, and music festivals. Lauren’s motivation in all that she does is her desire to help the community and bring people together.

Lauren loves helping those in need, making a difference in people’s lives, and making people aware that help and understanding is out there. She believes in helping people to take the steps they need to progress in their lives. She is committed to ensuring that people feel they are in the best hands possible regarding their mental health and wellbeing.

In her spare time, Lauren loves to get outdoors on day trips with her fiancé, testing out new foodie spots, and enjoys the arts and escape rooms! She also loves to cook and try out new recipes.
